the tow-haul switch usually stops working because the wire from the switch on the shift lever is broken. this can be repaired instead of replaced. use a piece of speaker wire to repair by soldering. also put a coil in the wire so it doesn't pull against itself if you have a tilt wheel. remove the cover from the bottom of the steering column and the wire from the shift lever will be exposed so you can get to it. solder in about a six inch piece of wire so it is long enough to be able to flex.
the wire from the tow-haul switch located in the shift lever is broken. take the lower cover off of the steering column and the wire will be exposed so you can get to it. use a test light to find where the wire is broken (usually right where it goes into the dash) solder in about a six inch piece of speaker wire and put a coil in the wire so it will flex (if you have a tilt wheel). this will solve your problem and is a lot cheaper than replacing the lever assy like the dealer wants to do.
