While my first reaction is "don't" because of some bad HP experiences I've had, this seems like a good HP Compaq, the 15" Presario CQ60-220US, for $500 after rebate.
My personal recommendation is to get a MacBook ($1000) because it just has much better hardware and software. Plus, if you buy one now, you can get a $10 upgrade to Snow Leopard (which looks like it will be a very good OS, and much, much less expensive than an upgrade to Windows 7).
