Two main types of fibre found in skeletal muscle?
Type 1 (slow (Red) twitch) fibers - - high in myoglobin and mitochondria, reacts slowly, high count of red blood cells and oxygen. Preferred to slow aerobic activities (running, rowing, swimming, walking) Type 2 (fast (white) twitch) fibers - - low in mitochondria and myoglobin, react quickly, low count of red blood cells and works anaerobic (without O2). Preferred to fast all out effort (30m - 100m sprint, power lifting, high jump).
