The two orders of the Superorder Dinosauria are Saurischia and Ornithischia, meaning the lizard-like pelvic girdle and the bird-like pelvic girdle. The classification is a little strange in that the birds are almost certainly descended from the Saurischia.

What are the 2 major groups of dinosaurs?

The two major groups of dinosaurs are the saurischians and ornithischians. Saurischian dinosaurs include theropods like T. rex and sauropods like Brachiosaurus, characterized by their hip structure. Ornithischian dinosaurs include species like Triceratops and Stegosaurus, known for their distinctive beaks and herbivorous diets.

What ended the Jurassic period?

The end of the Silurian period and the beginning of the Devonian period was not defined by an extinction event, but by the distinctive rock formations of the period. As a result the end of the Silurian period is uncertain by +/- 2.8 million years.

What are mesozoic?

The Mesozoic Era is the name for the period of time that began about 252 million years ago and ended about 66 million years ago. This era is divided into three geologic periods: the Triassic (from 252 to 201 million years ago), the Jurassic (201 to 145 million years ago), and the Cretaceous (145 to 66 million years ago). This was an important time in the development of the earth and its inhabitants. Geologists believe that it was during this time that great tectonic plates under the surface of the Earth shifted, causing the supercontinent of Pangaea to break into two great continents first and eventually into all the different continents we now know. Great changes in animal life occurred also. Dinosaurs first appeared in the Late Triassic period and flourished during the Jurassic period, becoming the dominant land animals. They became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous Period. Birds, derived from a branch of flying dinosaurs, first appeared in the Jurassic Period. Mammals, distinguished from birds and dinosaurs by giving birth to live babies rather than laying eggs, first appeared during the Mesozoic, but most were small, none more than about 33 pounds. The mass extinction at the end of the Mesozoic Era included not just the land dinosaurs, but about half the genera of animals then on earth ("genera" is the plural of "genus", as in genus and species). There may have been a major meteorite impact that caused this extinction and a series of violent volcanic eruptions may have contributed to it too.
