Very sure that it is insertion, because there are three chromosome 18s instead of two.
Most children born with trisomy 18 die within their first year of life
Edwards' syndrome is caused by an extra (third) copy of chromosome 18. The extra chromosome is lethal for most babies born with this condition. It causes major physical abnormalities and severe mental retardation. Very few children afflicted with this syndrome survive beyond the first year.
Trisomy 13 Trisomy 13, or Pataus syndrome is the least common of the live-born trisomy disorders, with an incidence of 1 in 5000 to 1 in 2,000 live births, with affected males equal to affected females. 75% of trisomy 13 cases are due to maternal NDJ, 20% are due to a translocation, and 5% are due to mosaicism. The major midline dysmorphic features of trisomy 13 are due to a defect in the fusion of the midline prechordial mesoderm in the first three weeks of gestation. Trisomy 13 tends to present with more severe craniofacial and midline defects than are found in Trisomy 18 or 21. Trisomy 13 has the following clinical features: # Holoporsencephaly # Polydactly # Seizures # Deafness # Microcephaly # Midline Cleft lip # Midline Cleft palate # Abnormal ears # Sloping forehead # Omphalocele # Cardiac and renal anomalies # Mental retardation. Trisomy 13 is also confirmed by karyotype with FISH analysis. 44% of these patients die within 1 month, and > 70% die within one year. Severe mental retardation exists in all survivors as per (http://pedclerk.bsd.uchicago.edu/chromosomalabnormalities.html)
Trisomy 18 is a form of chromosomal aberration. It is neither recessive nor dominant. Neither does it show co-dominance or incomplete dominance factor. It arises due to the presence of an extra chromosome 18 in the somatic cells.
Actually there is a story I read saying...21 years ago my sister was born with Edwards Syndrome or Complete Trisomy 18.The doctors told my parents that helping this baby is a lost cause and she will only live for a month. My parents refused to give up and not help her.My sister turned 21 on Sunday. She is the oldest living person with Complete Trisomy 18.A parent's love GMH.Comments on #60556 (5)May 26, 2010 12:00 AM by Cody P, Crown Point, IN - Inspiring featsShare1065
trisomy There several types of trisomy, the most well known is probably Down syndrome, which is trisomy 21.
Down syndrome is caused by the presence of a third chromosome 21
There is no cure for trisomy 18
Trisomy 18 can be detected before birth
These are called fatal genetic mutations. Same examples are: Tay-Sachs disease, Neimann-Pick disease, Trisomy 18 and Trisomy 13 are "Edwards Syndrome" and "Patau Syndrome," respectively and Cystic fibrosis
An extra copy of Chromosome 18
Most children born with trisomy 18 die within their first year of life
Trisomy 18 occurs in approximately one in every 3,000 newborns
yes
I searched for canine trisomy in the internet. It looks like they can have a trisomy 1 whcih causes some types of cancers, trysomy 13 (thyroid issues) and 18. The word is actually trisomyism. Downs is trisomy 21. Humans are also sometimes born with a trisomy 19. Each has it's own name after the doctor who discovered them, Edwards, Downs, and Bach. Did not find any canine with trisomy 21
