Phenylketonuria
PKU
It typically means the dog is suffering from liver disease.
The conditionally essential amino acids in humans are the amino acids arginine, cysteine, glycine, glutamine, histidine, proline, serine and tyrosine. They are considered conditionally essential, which means they are not normally required in the diet, but must be supplied as a supplement to specific populations that do not synthesize it in adequate amounts. An example would be with the disease phenylketonuria (PKU). Individuals living with PKU must keep their intake of phenylalanine extremely low to prevent mental retardation and other metabolic complications. However, they cannot synthesize tyrosine from phenylalanine, so tyrosine becomes essential in the diet of PKU patients.
Dopamine functions as a neurotransmitter activating dopamine receptors, and is essential to the normal functioning of the central nervous system. Dopamine has many functions, the most important being the central reward system (mesolimbic brain) and in controlling and coordinating movement. It is produced from L-tyrosine, a non-essential amino acid, which is converted into L-DOPA by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase. L-DOPA is then converted to dopamine by the enzyme DOPA decarboxylase. L-DOPA is the precursor to dopamine and is given as medication to people suffering from diseases such as Parkinson's Disease because, unlike dopamine, L-DOPA is more fat-soluble, and, as such, can cross the blood-brain barrier.
Ketoanalogues provide essential amino acids, such as phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan, that are typically restricted in a low-protein diet. By providing these precursors, ketoanalogues help support protein synthesis and maintain nitrogen balance in patients on protein-restricted diets, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Blood thinners are used, at times, but the primary treatment, as PVD becomes more severe is surgical. Stopping smoking, of course, is an essential part of treatment.
When a chronic disease becomes exacerbated it means it has gotten worse. This may warrant the medical staff calling in the family.
People with the disease seem to be very inflexible, and start to run slower as the disease becomes worse.
Exercise is essential to treating this disease
