It depends. You should always proof the yeast by adding a little (about 1/4 tsp) to 1/4 cup lukewarm water. Add about 1/4 teaspoon of sugar and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. If the yeast is still alive (and suitable to use in baking) the water's surface wlll be bubbly which will indicate that the yeast will work.
The sugar in the beer will be converted to CO2 and alcohol, but there is a big chance you wont want to drink it. Best to spend $5 at your local home brew shop and buy a yeast that will make your beer taste like beer, not bread.
Yes, yeast can become stale or so old that it can no longer be activated. Dry yeast, generally sold in small packets, tends to last much longer that cakes of moist yeast, which must be refrigerated and used relatively quickly.
You could use it for an ingredient for dough . . . or use it in the most awesomest explosion by putting yeast in a bottle of liquid!!!

When you use yeast it takes longer and doesn't get as big, cause you let yeast bread rise.More information:The question is not clear, because in common English usage, "bread baking" assumes the use of yeast. Breads that do not use yeast are called "quick breads" and use baking powder or baking soda for leavening.
