In many(all?) states there are two separate chargeable offenses: Driving under the Influence, more commonly known as DUI, and Driving While Impaired or DWI.

The wording of the statutes covering both offenses, as to exactly what it is that you may be under the influence of,or impaired by, is left intentionally vague so as to cover ANYTHING that may cause you to not be in a "nornal" frame of mind and body.
