Their is a free transit service called 'Air Train' which operates between terminals. Terminal 7 is directly adjacent to terminal 8 and the one stop ride on Air Train should take approximately 90 seconds. It's one of the easiest connections in the scheme of JFK transits.

You can walk to terminal 4 from 3 ..about 10 mins..NOT advisable if you have a lot of carry on luggage. It's better to hop on the FREE ground transporation bus that goes around but be advised if you are going from 4 to 3..it goes in a counter-clockwise direction so if you are at 4, it will go to 5..6..7..8..9..1..2..3 and that's going to take 15-20 mins especially if it's rush hour at the airport.
