The NorthStar(Polaris) isthe star that never moves in the sky asEarth rotates.
Actually, it does move a little bit, because it's notexactly over the North pole.
Because, at the moment, Polaris (North Star) lies nearly in a direct line with the axis of the Earth's rotation "above" the North Pole . Polaris stands almost motionless on the sky, and all the stars of the Northern sky appear to rotate around it.
Polaris (the 'North Star', the 'Pole Star') is close to the point in the sky that the earth's North Pole points to.
The star is so nearly motionless that it makes a fine reference point for navigation.
The Earth rotates on a slowly-changing axis. Any star that appears very near this axis will seem to remain in place while the Earth turns.

Due to a phenomenon called axial precession, the North Pole Star changes, though this change takes thousands of years to complete, and Polaris will be our North Star for the foreseeable future.
