Are you asking what causes you to wake up with puffy eyes?

Do you have contacts? If so you could have left them in. Many other factors can contribute. You could be allergic to something. You could have dry eyes, or you could have unnaturally moist eyes. This is also a sign of some more severe problems. If it persists contact your doctor.

This may be due to your environment - you may be allergic to something where you sleep:

  • Bed mites may live in the mattress and in the carpet. Mattress covers can help this problem. Carpet may need to be removed, or at the very least, deeply cleaned and vacuumed regularly.
  • You may be allergic to dust or mold in your bedroom. Be sure to do a thorough cleaning and dusting regularly.
  • If you are allergic to pollen or ragweed, be sure to keep your windows closed while you sleep.
  • If your animals sleep in your room, you may want to reconsider. You may be better off moving their bed to the living room or kitchen.

A swollen eye may come from many things. An infection like Pink Eye or simply something that has got in your eye or poked your eye.

It may be due to fluid retention, called edema.

The thin skin around your eyes can cause fluid retention to be prominent, resulting to puffy eyes
