It can be a simple muscle pull, or indigestion (heartburn), or for other reasons it also can be very serious like a heart attack. If you have chest pain you should have it checked out. Some other symptoms of a heart attack is pain radiating down one or both arms. I don't want to scare you but if you are having a heart attack something should be done quick and you should err on being safe rather than sorry.
