No altair Ibn La'Ahad was NOT a real person but more of a fantasy of gamers whom have dreams of it being real.
He was a character whom didnt exist in real life but in a video game the people whom helped him in the game existed and so did the people he supposedly helped but in short, he is just a fake character and has a single insignificent peice of (or burnt peice of paper) prof that he EVER existed.
His group of assasins that he was part of where very real as where the templars but they werent as evil as the game fortold.
In short, no he is just a child fantasy this has also been proven. hopefully this helped. :)
