We are not told. He was a member of a prominent patrician family. He retired to a small farm after He had to sellmostof his land to pay a hefty fine related to a trial of his son. He was elected suffect consul, a consul who stood in for a consul who did not complete his term of office. He was also appointed dictator twice. Given that he headed the Roman state three times, it is hard to imagine that he never sat in the senate. However, there is no mention of this in work of ancient historian Livy.
