For most of his life he got very little recognition (and payment!) for his work; then, in 1845 his poem, 'The Raven,' became an almost-overnight worldwide success. Even so, he did not enjoy near the fame he does today, and almost all of his writing was underappreciated during his lifetime.

He was the best short, Horror, and mystery stories writer. 'The Tell-Tale Heart,' The Raven,' and 'The Pit and the Pendulum' are now well known writings. He had a most refined word structuring combined with the horror he wrote to make his unique style.
