From a very young age, Frederick Chopin's youngest sister, Emilia Chopin, showed symptoms of an illness. It was never diagnosed but it was probably tuberculosis. It caused a weakness in her and also caused her to be pale. Despite several attempts to cure her, her illness progressed very quickly and spent her final months coughing blood and often loosing her senses. Emilia actually died at the age of 15 and not 14.
