She held the possibly honorary rank of FlugKapitan ( Flight Captain) which was/is a Merchant , not an Air Force rank title. AF ( and Army) captain is Hauptmann, lit, Head man- or officer in charge. I do not know about her involvement with the SS.

How do you do a Hanna?

Hanna or Hannah is a woman's name. It is derived from the Hebrew and means ( Grace) in German, Hanna and Anna ( which also means Grace) are separate names. Hanna Reitsch can be loosely translated in Italian as Grazia ( Grace) Imperiale. Likewise, fiendish Heinrich Himmler comes out- Enrico de Angelis! ( Henry of the Angels).

Was Hanna Reitsch a bad woman?

She was an ex-officio officer of the Luftwaffe with strong SS connections. In her regular works she test-piloted various types of craft for the Air Force, including the guided model of the Fi-l03, various German jets and so on. She was one of Hitler's intimates and in his entourage, as were numerous cryptographers and secretarial officials. Whether this makes her (bad) is not for mortal man to judge. As far as is known she was never married, nor did she have any children out of wedlock. Draw your own conclusions. It can be argued she contributed more to development of aircraft than her long-lost American counterpart, but Miss Reitsch was not involved in long-range demonstration or exploratory flights.

Did the Luftwaffe flight-test Boost Gliders using a V-2 as the launching device?

The technology was there for a manned ( or womanned- like Miss Reitsch) second stage rocket-plane called the A-9 ( do not confuse with Czarist Russian Submarine with the same name code- also called A-9) there are unconfirmed reports that well in l943 in some outside, isolated area, the project took wing , successfully and Hanna got higher than any other Gal until Valentina Tereshkova of the USSR, and this historical fact has been largely suppressed. Miss Reitsch lived until l979 so no adverse problems with Zero-G.
