Most probably.

Romans used a primitive steel - a form iron used for making weaponry. They used nails for construction as well as wooden pegs.

It is most likely that as the Greek for 'nail' is used in the New Testament, this is what they were. They were sharp, large, iron nails between 5 and 8 inches long with a beaten over head just like modern nails. The smaller ones would have been used to nail Jesus through the wrists and the larger through, probably, both ankles at once.
