Well, here’s the deal. She was actually in Dallas, Texas the day President Kennedy passed away. She was attending an even with Richard Nixon across town at the time, and of course we know he was a Republican. Both Nixon and Crawford were invited to the presidential motorcade, but declined the invitation. To further say she was, there’s an interview in the early 70s towards the end of her career with Pepsi Cola where she was asked questions about the academy awards, how people used it as their own idea’s stage, how they may have been rigged, and the conversation drifted to Ronald Reagan. Her words were “I think he was born to be governor,” (California), and of course, Mr. Reagan at the time and in his presidential office, was Republican. So. In my mind, basing it on this information, I’m sorry to say that yes, Miss Crawford was Republican. But can we say we’re surprised with Joan having had a conservative political view? She was very much a perfectionist, and had her own ideas on what traditional femininity was, and to her best abilities buoyed those traditions even to her deathbed. But that’s that.
