Just my personal opinion, Judas was forgiven, he had a task to perform for Christ and he did it: the betrayer without which the crucifixion could not have happened on the prophesied time. I do not think the betrayal was a sin, at the last supper Jesus himself called Judas over and told him "do what you must do".

Yet, Scripture also says that Judas repented of this the gravest of all sins and tried to return the 30 pieces of silver. True repentance is the first step in changing our old sinful ways and begin to follow Christ through baptism. So we see, with God all is possible.
