In 1922, Howard Carter and Lord Carnavron set out to find Tutankhamen's tomb. Their journey was ground to a halt when he died two weeks after laying eyes on him.
According to newspapers of the time, there was a curse inside:
Death shall come on swift wings to Him that touches the Tomb of the Pharaoh
The world's newspapers got crazy over the idea of 'the Curse of the Mummy'.
Tutankhamen's treasures went on a world tour to museums worldwide, and when museum employees touched them, they died shortly afterwards. The press finally conluded that the curse was attached to the king's remains.
Actually, there is no such thing as a curse. A journalist made it up. Lord Carnarvon did die of pnuemonia, but he had been in poor health (unfinished)
