-Son names have always been very common. Larson (or perhaps more commonly "Larsson") is a patronymic name that means "son of Lars". There may have been Swedish kings and noblemen with that name in medieval times, but hardly after the 15th or 16th century. After that they used the names of their noble house (such as Holstein-Gottorp and Rheinland-Pfalz).
