Yes, Abe was in a wheel chair. This fact is lesser known because there are very very few pictures while he is in his chair. Not only the public but also the press had large amounts of respect for the 16th president and basically didn't allow each other to take pictures of him in a wheel chair. Lincoln himself hated being in the chair or to be percieved as weak. He would be propped up for speeches or moved to a normal chair when he was being filmed. In most statues of him today he is indeed sitting.
