Mardi Gras always takes place the day b4 lent :)
Mardi Gras is always celebrated on a Tuesday. In French, "mardi" means Tuesday and "gras" means fat.
Mardi Gras parades start about two weeks before Mardi Gras day. The date of Mardi Gras changes each year since the date of Easter changes. Mardi Gras day always falls the day before Ash Wednesday.
Mardi Gras does not always start on Tuesday, but ends on Tuesday...hence Mardi Gras (this is French Mardi=Tuesday, Gras=Fat...Fat Tuesday). It is the last day before Ash Wednesday which starts the fasting associated with Lent.

The Incas of South and Central America did not celebrate Mardi Gras. There is a group called "The Order of Incas" that parade during Mardi Gras season.
