Of course she was Chief Powhatan's daughter.
When the English colonists John Smith was taken by Powhatan warriors and Pocahontas save him from execution.
Pocahontas, also called Matoaka, was one of the daughters of the chief commonly known today as Powhatan of the tribe also known as Powhatan. The real name of those people - the name they called themselves - is unknown.
Pocahantas helped make peace between The Jamestown colonists and the Powhatan because she had married the English colonist John Rofle in the year 1614. John Rolfe wasn't a colonist!! :)

Matoaka was the real name of the woman known today as Pocahontas. She was the daughter of Powhatan, the primary chief of a powerful confederacy in Virginia, comprised mostly of Algonquin speaking tribes. The word Pocahontas is reputed to mean "daughter" in the Algonquin language.
Pocahantas was part of the Powhatan Tribe near Virginia colony. That location puts her squarely into the southern colonies.
Pocahontas was kidnapped and renamed Lady Rebecca by Samuel Argall. Chief Powhatan was tricked by him to trade weapons. Powhatan gave them the weapons and Sam took Pocahontas. She returned years later with the name Rebecca in 1617. She then died at the age of 22 of an illness because there was no medicine to treat her back then.
