pope Pius the XI was not intimidated by Hitler. on the other hand, he orchestrated a massive secret rescue for many Jews who were in danger of Hitler's anti semetisism. the only reason the pope was less vocal about his opposition to Hitler was not because he was frightened, but because he knew that if he spoke out, more Jews would be deported to death camps.
