Not directly, Saruman is the head wizard and one of the Wise that attack the Necromancer and force him out of southern Mirkwood. However we find out in Lord of the Rings that Saruman really only did this as part of his attempt to get the One Ring for himself, as he was aware that the Necromancer was also searching for the One Ring (but had told the Wise nothing of this) and did not want the competition during his search.
