Charles Schulz was living in CO (c.1950's) when he painted a wall for his children with the characters, including a dog, that became The Peanuts Game. I think in the Snoopy strip, Snoopy is born in California at The Daisy Hill Puppy Farm. BTW - the wall from the CO home had been painted over. The owners of the home discovered the painting, had the wall removed and shipped it to CA where it now resides in the Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa.
