Taylor Swift was NOT on American Idol. She is not to be confused with fellow country stars Carrie Underwood and Kelly Pickler, who did receive their big breaks on the show.

After many trips to and performances in Nashville, Taylor's career began at the age of 14 when she was signed to a publishing deal with Sony/ATV and later to Big Machine Records.

She started singing in contests at age 10 and winning them. She also started taking trips to Nashville at age 11 and taking demo CDs to record companies. They rejected her, so she started playing a 12-string guitar at age 12 and moved to Nashville when she was 13. She got a name with Big Machine Records - and the rest is history. She used nothing but talent and persuasiveness. She didn't have people voting for her like on "American Idol." She started out small, but she is so good that she grew and is now one of the most popular singers for all ages.
