As far as I know, he worked with many different people at different periods of time. Two people he had worked with/assisted are Franklin L. Pope and Sholes (full name unknown, sorry).
He didn't. He made many inventions related to electricity, but electricity was well-known before his time.
Thomas C. Johnson made the invention of the automatic in the early 1909. It was one the great inventions of that time and was second best.
