Dracula was not really invented. Bram Stoker, the author of the novel, was inspired by a real person named Vlad III (also Vlad Tepes or Vlad Draculea). Vlad Tepes (1431-1476) was a prince from Walachia. The novel "Dracula" by Bram Stoker was first published on 18th May 1897.
Vlad the Impalor got his name from the fact that he would impale his enemies on large spikes through the anus if it was a male, or if an adulterous women, through the vagina. He committed other cruel and violent acts, but he is most famous for his impalement's, he killed a grand total of about 40, 000 people in his life time. Most of these people were impaled.
