Was William of Normandy a good king????

no he was power mad and killed many people just to show how powerful. He also destroyed many towns and villages! he took what he want from his people he killed all the rebellions (the people who disagreed with the way he ruled the country) and many children. He won the battle of hastings because he wanted to be king which comes with power. He was good in battle, clever and cared for his country but was a serious killer!!

Was William duke of Normandy cruel or kind?

I assume you are asking about the Duke William of Normandy who became William I of England and is remembered as William the Conqueror. What I have read about him seems to indicate he was either cruel or kind, depending on the circumstances. The people who opposed him were treated very harshly, but he did things that were surprising, such as outlawing the slave trade.

Did William of Normandy deserve to win the Battle of Hastings?

William was focused on the battle of Hastings and nothing else, he was prepared and if he hadn't won England wouldn't be the way it is neither the language of English........William was a very kind ruler and unlike Harold encouraged his soldiers to fight not force.

What were William duke of Normandy's strengths?

The Normans played a trick on the English. They pretended to run a way. This caused the English to leave their strong position on the hill. William was brave, determined and ambitious. He wanted to be the King of England as well as the Duke of Normandy. The Normans had soldiers on horseback. William was a very good commander of his troops. The Normans brought with them a useful mixture of foot-soldiers, archers and cavalry. Each of these played a very important part in the final victory. He had a fleet of around three thousand ships which was filled with mighty horses and courageous men. Once arriving at Pevensey, he built a castle with a strong rampart. Then he hurried off to Hastings, where he erected another similar fortress. William had very good tactics. Since the English were in the north, the Norman's freely disembarked at Pevensey without any opposition.

What kind of professional men did William of Normandy have?

William had mercenaries from all over Western Europe in his army at the Battle of Hastings. The word professional, as used in regards to the Middle Ages, often has meanings that would not include mercenary soldiers, and included only clergy, physicians, and lawyers. If this is what the question refers to, then certainly, William would have had all of these types.
