Michael said fame did not excite him at all because he felt like the loneliest person in the world. He said the Off The Wall era was one of the hardest times in his life. He hardly had any friends at that time and was so lonely. He used to walk down his street hoping no one would notice who he was . He wanted people to like him for who he was as a person not as a celebrity. He wanted people to be his friend because they liked him and needed a friend too, not because of who he was. He also stated that he was so rich in some experiences while being poor in moments of true joy.

In conclusion I think fame was bittersweet for Michael.
