MK-I Little Boy & MK-III Fat Man
It was built in Hiroshima as part of the Manhattan Project...DUH!!! NO! Not even close. To counter the astonishing lack of knowledge about this subject, a few quick facts: Fat Man and Little Boy were both built in Los Alamos New Mexico. Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima by the Enola Gay. Fat Man was dropped on Nagasaki by the Bockscar. Manhattan Project was the code name of the research project, uranium and the first plutonium were produced at the Graphite Reactor in Oak Ridge Tennessee.
People at the Manhattan Project named it Fat Man and the other one was called Little Boy because of their size and shape.
There weren't 6 African scientists on the Manhattan project. They were all European or American. It was rare indeed for a black man to be allowed an education in those days. It is doubtful that any got so far as to achieve a PhD in physics or chemistry. It is certain that none were part of project Manhattan. ------------- The above comment is not true - African-American scientist J. Ernest Wilkins got a PhD in 1942 and from 1944 worked on the Manhattan Project in the University of Chicago's Met Lab.
