Octavius was the adopted son and primary heir of Julius Caesar. He became a triumvir along with Lepidus and Marc Antony and they not only avenged Caesar's murder but they also divided up the empire. Lepidus was soon ousted and Octavius, (Octavian in English) became involved in a power struggle with Antonius (Antony, in English) Octavius won and became what we call Rome's first emperor.
