Salt (Sodium Chloride, NaCl) is an inorganic compound.

The classification of an organic compound is that it is a molecule that contains a carbon atom. Everything else can be considered inorganic. Some molecules that contain carbon are also inorganic such as carbon dioxide or calcium carbonate.

Ordinary table salt, sodium chloride, is an inorganic compound. There are some organic salts, such as tetramethylammonium benzoate.

it is common sense to call salts in general inorganicbecause of the metallic cation. However chemiclly also organic salts are known: sodium lauryl sulfate, soap, is an example.

If you are referring to table salt, sodium chloride, this is an inorganic molecule. You can tell this by the lack of carbon atoms in the molecule. However, "salt" can also refer to a class of molecules that are formed by the combination of a cation and an anion, and there are both inorganic and organic salts.
