There are 2 popular opinions about the true "turning point" of the Pacific War. One says it was at Midway because that event turned Japanese strategy from total offense to total defense for the remainder of the war.

The second says it was actually the Solomons campaign, in which vast numbers of Japanese warmaking resources were expended to the point that they had nothing left to reverse the inevitable.

Both definitions have merit, and the one anyone likes the best is a matter of personal choice.
