The American Civil War was not in fact started by the British. An all-American conflict that erupted in April of 1861 due to the firing by South Carolinians on the Union-held Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina, the Civil War involved the British only in a very indirect way, through diplomacy and limited commercial interactions.
