The Art Institute was built to house the Women's Congress for the World's Columbian Exposition (World's Fair) in 1893. This was Mrs Potter Palmer's mission for the fair. Her wealthy and influential husband built the Palmer House hotel After the fair, the art works from the temporary museum were moved there. The previous Art Institute building was at State & Monroe on ruins of the Great Chicago Fire.
The Museum of Science and Industry (was the Fine Arts building), The Field Museum (was built as a result of the Worlds Fair in 1893), and the Midway Plaisance (although not a building is a historical part of the history of the White City).
