it is about a group of very loud, talkative 5th graders. Dave packer, 1 of the most talkativ 5th grade boys, is trying 2 go a hole day without talking, and then he loses his temper and tells Lindsey burgess, 1 of the most talkative 5th grade girls, that if she went 5 mins without talking, the top of her hed wood explode. then Dave challenges Lindsay to a contest. about who talks more, boys or girls. they are going 2 go 2 days with talking as little as they can, not at skool, home, the bus, or anyplace else. they can talk 2 teachers and stuf, but only 3 words at a time. every extra word spoken is 1 point against the other team. Dave and Lindsey r the teem captins. lots of things interesting things happen, including creativ ways of communicating. sum teachers can stand 4 it, like the gym and reading teachers, while others cant, like the principal, science, music and math teachers. in the middle of the story, during reading class, Dave and Lindsey have their own contest, wichever side wins-boys or girls-the team captin gets to draw a big L on the team captin of the losing teams forhed. in the end, the principal, mrs. hiatt, screams at Dave to talk, and he tells her that shes a bull and 2 back off. wen Dave yells at mrs hiatt, he says 27 "illegal" words. in mrs hiatts office, she apologises 2 Dave, and ends up joining the contest-along with the hole skool- with grades 1 thru 4 competing, sins the kindergarteners wood probly b 2 yung 2 understand. it is unnown who wun that contest. rite b4 it wood b exactly 2 days after the 5th grders started the contest, Lindsey makes a speech about her hole opinion of boys changing. after Lindsey makes her speech, Dave finds out she edited it so that both teams were tied exactly.
