It wasn't a declaration of war but a declaration of independence. However, those that signed it knew the British wouldn't just go away without a fight.
The America and British fought because taxation with out representation they paid taxes with out someone representing them in Parliament <><><> The reasons for American dissatisfaction with the British government are spelled out in the Declaration of Independence- about halfway down. The link below will take you to the text of the Declaration.
According to the Declaration of Independence, the British had enlisted their standing army, foreign mercenaries, and the Native American tribes living along the frontier to fight against the colonists. All three groups are mentioned explicitly in the grievances section of the Declaration of Independence.

The colonists in British America felt that they were being ill-used by Britain, and that their rights to self-government and free trade were being usurped. The proponents of independence had many causes to be upset with King George III, as enumerated in the Declaration of Independence.
he negative trade balance between Britain and china
It declared the colonies free from British authority, establishing the shared destiny of the states in their fight for self government.
No -- he did not sign it and wasn't even there when it was signed. He was leading the army to fight the British :) I hope that answers your question :)
the declaration of independence was made to show that the colonies were tired of being taxed because the British and the parliament used money to fight an unfair war. They also wanted to be a state and by their self (not owned) So they decided to make up a declaration to avoid a war against British and parliaments "men".The declaration of independence was a risky task because they knew their was going to be a price to pay which was death. John Hancock was the biggest signature on the declaration because it was a way of saying screw you parliament I'm going to stand up for what i believe in and no one not even you people will stop me.As a way of saying well we want to be on our own was why the declaration is and was made. That's how the 50 states came to be.
