Hi there yes the ladle would become hot as heat travels away from the heat source.The ladle would get especially hot if it was a metal ladle as metal is a good heat conductor where as a plastic one wouldn't be as hot. Be carefull and don't leave the utensil in if you do by accident remove it with caution by using oven gloves.
