There is a great deal of water in the Grand Canyon in the form of the Colorado River which flows through it at a rate of approximately 20,000 cubic feet per second. There can also be water found in numerous streams and pools which originate from and around the walls of the canyon throughout.

However, water is not necessarily abundant and easily attainable along hiking trails leading into the canyon. Given the extreme heat, it is imperative that hikers (including casual day hikers) travel with an adequate supply of fresh water.
