No. A male is called a wizard if he's a good witch, a warlock if he's wicked. There were neither in the original 1900 book edition of The Wizard of Oz. Indeed, the Wizard was a humbug magician from Omaha, Nebraska. He started out in entertainment as a ventriloquist, at which he was good. Then he moved into hot air ballooning. He wasn't quite as skilled at hot air ballooning as he had been at projecting his voice. For he ended up not being able to control the balloon on a windy day. The result was a landing in the beautiful, enchanted, magical land of Oz. In Oz, he began his third entertaining career, as Wizard and Absolute Ruler from his Emerald Palace. In this case, he was skilled at intimidating and manipulating his subjects. But he actually was a fraud, and constantly feared being found out.
