Somewhat, there is. There is a profit fanfiction prequel story in the book series The Lion King: The Six New Adventures, specifically in its first part "A Tale of Two Brothers", which tells of Mufasa and Scar's youth. But that is really only profit fanfiction and has been denied by the film's makers on the commentary track of the Laserdisc release in 1995 and the DVD release in 2003. Also, some events in The Lion King 1½ is considered a prequel as it details Timon's origins and how Timon and Pumbaa met each other which takes place before the original film.
Yeah there were a whole bunch of movies made before The lion king.
Yes, The Lion King 1½: Hakuna Matata. Its international release is titled The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata, but hence most officially it's not a 3. It's more of a Timon & Pumbaa movie and any way you want to look at it, it's most definitely a parody and not meant as a serious prequel. That's currently the only Lion King movie released after The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride. And there has been no official announcements of any new Lion King movie being even in production, much less released.
The 2004 straight-to-DVD movie, The Lion King 1½ was released internationally under the title The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata. There was no specific reason as to 'why' the title was changed, it was simply released under a different title despite having nothing to do with advancing the story from the first two films.
The Lion King, Lion King 2 Simba's Pride, Lion King 1 1/2
There are three Lion King films: The Lion King (1994), The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998), and The Lion King 1½ (2004).All movies have TopRater: toprater.com/en/movies/objects/2860938-the-lion-king-1994
So far, there are three Lion King films. I only know of The Lion King, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, and The Lion King 1½. The order in which you can watch them chronologically is The Lion King, The Lion King 1½, and The Lion King II: Simba's Pride.
The international title of the straight-to-DVD movie The Lion King 1½ in 2004 was titled The Lion King 3 but it did not advance the Lion King story so no there is not nor will there be a Lion King 3.It was a prequel of sorts featuring Timon & Pumba and what was going on in their lives during the events of The Lion King before & after they meet Simba. There is a live action version of The Lion King slated for a July 19th 2019 release.

No. There's three: The Lion King, The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, The Lion King 1½; Hakuna Matata.

The Lion king
No. There isn't a third movie in the Lion King story, so there naturally can't be a fourth movie in the series. The release that was titled The Lion King 3 was simply the international title of the direct-to-video feature, The Lion King 1½ from 2004, so while it is technically a third movie it does not in any way advance the story from The Lion King one & two.
