Ancient Sumeria is the oldest known civilization. Their written language's characters are known as "cuneiform" and were made of the impressions of styli in clay tablets. The current double-snake symbol of medicine has its origin in Sumerian traditions. Many old stories of cultures around the world originated in Sumer. It is amazing how few people know about Sumeria when it was so very influential on current civilizations.
