There were massive reunions at Gettysburg, most notable for the fiftieth anniversary in 1913, attended by veterans of both sides, who were extremely friendly. The only people who really understood what they went through besides their own comrades were the soldiers from the other side. There was another, poignant reunion in 1938, for the 75th anniversary. There is newsreel motion picture footage of a handful of old geezers reenacting Pickett's Charge, and of an old Rebel giving the "Rebel Yell" - perhaps the only recording of that fearsome war cry which exists. There are reenactments every year nowadays, with reenactors coming from all over the country. Everybody wants to portray the Confederates now. Its said the buzzards still return every year, driven by genetic memory to return to the site of the great feast of '63.
