In the early days of the church priests and popes were allowed to marry. There are different reasons why the change over the centurys. It usually comes down to how the current pope at that partricular time and his council of advisers feel about the situation. The (brainwashed masses) usually do not have any say in how or when changes are made. They just wait for the official edict to guide their world. Get a book on the Popes, not published by the Church. Probably not going to find any at the local christian book store.
