the declaration of independance.
US President ThomasJefferson signed the "Act to Prohibit the Importation of Slaves" . The act was signed March 2, 1807 and the act went into effect on January 1, 1808 .
Thomas Jefferson borrowed many ideas from John Locke and Montesquieu. Locke's ideas on natural rights and limited government influenced Jefferson's writing of the Declaration of Independence, while Montesquieu's ideas on separation of powers and checks and balances influenced the design of the U.S. Constitution.
Thomas Jefferson supported the American Revolution and the establishment of a democratic government based on Enlightenment principles. He was a proponent of individual rights and freedoms, as evidenced by his authorship of the Declaration of Independence. Additionally, Jefferson advocated for agrarianism, favoring an economy based on farming and land ownership, which he believed would promote independence and virtue among citizens. His vision included a limited federal government that respected states' rights and the will of the people.
I answered this because the fact that it's an important national document is not really a complete answer. If you look over the course of history, you'd find that most developments in everything were done by people taking what was done by other people and adding to it. Although the Masons and some philosophers were aware of the concepts of democracy, the common people were not really that aware of it. With a literacy rate of only about 20%, most of the people that lived in America didn't even know what it meant. What Thomas Jefferson did was take the idea of a government chosen by the people and responsible to the people; a people free to determine their own fate, their own fortune and their own spiritual path, and distribute it so that all of the people could understand what could be within their grasp, if they were willing to fight for it.
