Washington helped more to gaine independence and he was the commander of the troops.
By all accounts, Washington's opinion of John Adams was of respect. He respected what Adams did for the country but leaned more heavily on the opinions of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson more often than he did Adams.
Washington and J Adams. Handshaking came in with Jefferson who considered it more "democratic".Washington and Adams. Handshaking came in with Jefferson
John Adams was a remarkable man. He was the one that nominated George Washington to be the first President under the Constitution. He was also a member of the committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence. He was also a diplomat to France and President of the United States.
No there is not a memorial for John Adams. There is an Adams Memorial Foundation that was created by the US Congress. The purpose of the Adams Memorial Foundation is to build a memorial to John Adams and his son, John Quincy Adams, in Washington, D.C. Please see the Related Links for more information.
I remember Abigail Adams, the wife of John Adams. I think she helped the Boston Tea Party. I'm not sure. (Sorry, I forgot my Social Studies textbook.) I also know Martha Washington, the wife of George Washington. She assisted the Continental Army. If you want more info, ask me! (I don't know how. Maybe by email)
He was a lawyer, the first Vice-President, and the second President after George Washington. He was also a founding father, active in the Continental Congresses and after independence, a diplomat to France and the Netherlands.
Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, John Hancock, John Adams, and more wrote the Declaration of Independence.
George Washington was no doubt more successful as president, but John Adams really did not have much of a chance to better Washington. Washington was hard to top.
Samuel Adams, George Washington, Benedict Arnold... There were many more.
Every thing points that Adams liked the final draft of the document and that he supported the idea .We do know that Adams was all ready on 23 committees and in the same week was assigned to 3 more. There was a political advantage in having the declaration written by a Virginian for the same reason it was politically smart to have Washington, a Virginian in command of the army. Adams stated that Jefferson was the best choice for the task and that he had a "peculiar felicity of expression." It is Adams that introduced the declaration of independence to Congress on July 1, 1776. No notes or transcription of his statements remain but what remained was the force of Adams himself as he spoke about the matter of Independence. Jefferson writes that Adams was "not graceful nor elegant nor remarkably fluent but spoke with a power of thought and expression that moved us from our seats."
When Adams entered office, he realized that he needed to protect Washington's policy of staying out of the French and British war. Because the French helped secure American independence from Britain, they had greater popularity with America. After the Jay Treaty, the French became angry and began seizing American merchant ships that were trading with the British in what became known as the "Quasi-War." Adams sent a commission to negotiate an understanding with France. However, Adams urged the Congress to augment the navy and army in case of diplomatic failure. ~Brianna Stokes~
